I'm rather dating myself when I say that my first computer was a Heathkit H-8, which I assembled from scratch, mostly in one evening. I upgraded it several times, but eventually replaced it with an Amiga 1000 which I still have, although it hasn't been turned on in over a year. It's tough to do my job without a computer at home, so my employer Silicon Graphics provides me with one. It's tough to go back to my Amiga when I have an Indy with an ISDN connection at home...
I write a lot of web pages as part of my job. I write pages that are intended to be documentation, rather than "art" or "entertainment". I've been writing Web pages since before Jim Clark left SGI to found Netscape. I write all my Web pages using Emacs and html-helper-mode. Though people tell me that the WYSIAWYG HTML editors (like CosmoCreate) are getting pretty good, and they are the only way to do VRML, which I'm learning.
