Scott's Sailing Page

It is said that there are two kinds of sailors: those who race, and those who cruise. I'm the latter type!

It's also been said that there are two types of boat owners: Those who are buying a boat, and those who are selling one. I'm currently between boats, and looking for a new one...

My Boat History

I came from a non-boating family. I was discouraged from doing something so foolish, but I persevered. I can't be the only person who got interested in boating and cruising from watching Gilligan's Island? I think I borrowed every book in the library remotely connected to boating, although I quickly discovered that I was mostly interested in cruising under sail.

I went through a number of sailing dingies, which I may document someday.

I had access to a Shields racing sloop while in college. I spent a lot of weekends sailing when I should have been studying... I did manage to graduate, though!

After I started working, I saved up my money and bought a trailerable cruising sailboat, a Montgomery 17, which I named Event Horizon (a bad physics/sailing joke...).

After I moved to the San Fransico Bay Area from the Los Angeles area, I wanted a bigger boat for the rougher conditions of the Bay. I bought a "character" boat, a junk-rigged catamaran named Dragon Wings.

What's next???

Here is a page with a small part of my collection of sailing pictures that I've taken. I hope you enjoy them...
